One of our employees wishes to add the subject of "Staff Kitchens" to next months Health and Safety Committee Meeting Agenda.

We have a microwave and conventional oven as well as a kettle, fridge and sink in our staff kitchens.

The said employee has a problem with people bringing in home made items such as cakes, for all employees to enjoy.
She says that there is legislation that forbids this practice happening, and that companies have been held to account for things arising such as food poisioning.

Would the company be negligent if food poisoning were to break out as a result of badly home made birthday cake?
Does anybody know of the Statute Law that this person is talking about?

advise that person to attend a basic food hygine course, and let them advise you after they have attended, not a bad idea, speak to you local EHO LA to find out when they are next running this course.
After they have been trained, ask them for their positive input on how best to maintain high food and hygine standards in the staff kitchen at work?
This will then be that persons problem and not a health and safety advisors.
Welfare Regs, Management Regs.
Safety look after safety, food looks after food.
Just an idea.
