Posted By MancMan I have been informed (by one of our non safety managers) that the disposable "sponge type" ear plugs (E.A.R Classics) should not be used due to safety reasons - Does anyone know anything more about this or can give me further information. This "ban" is news to me and my company have used these types of ear plugs for a long time and they are still available by our supplier. Any information would be very helpful.

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Some people can suffer irritation from open cell foam ear plugs; such users should be offered more suitable protection.

Also, it is possible for some people to get infection of the ear from the debris [skin, skin oils etc] that are inserted into the ear with the Ear Insert.
The ear itself, the insert and the the hand that rolls & inserts it must be scrupuously clean.
Incidentally, there are people who experience discomfort from ear pressurisation effects when using Inserts while suffering from head-colds.
