Does anybody know if there is a template for completing Repetitive Strain Risk Assessments. I need to undertake a number of assessments and would like to use a process similar to the MAC assessment which removes the guess work

Can anyone Help?

You could use the risk assessments in the HSE Book 'Upper Limb Disorders in the Workplace' HSG60 (Was ISBN 0-7176-1978-8).

This covers RSI for fingers, hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, heads and necks, the type of work (repetition) and force involved, the working environment and pyschosocial and individual factors.

The guidance provides good advice on reducing such issues. There is also a useful 1 page risk filter which can be used to assess all tasks before wading into a full risk assessment. You only need to do the full RA if significant risks are identified.

The postural analysis tool, RULA, available from the Dept of Mechanical Engineering, Nottingham University is probably the best-designed tool around for this purpose.

You can get the telephone number by googling and check availability from the departmental secretary
