I am trying to ensure that we comply with the relevant legal requirements regarding emergency lighting.

Can anyone tell me

1. Are BS5266 & EN50172 applicable to all existing buildings or just new builds?

2. What are the relevant pieces of legislation I need to refer to to ensure our compliance?

Regards

Hi Neil

In case you haven't read it, can I suggest you consult Lighting Guide 12, Emergency Lighting Dsign Guide, published by the Society of Light & Lighting.
This clearly states the standards you refer to appy to new and refurbished buildings only. I guess if you have no new-build (in which case you would not be asking the question)then the standards do not apply.

Cheers

Carol
