Posted By Charley Farley-Trelawney I am in need of assistance; I have just had a long meeting with the Fire Service, and supplied numerous schematics of the Fire Hydrant placement as well as a visual inspection where I am employed. We currently have many hydrants over a 150 acre area and are still growing.
Now here is my puzzle, I am certain that legislation has changed and that one no longer needs to identify hydrants with the 'H' post carrying the appropriate information, I feel that the cover needs to be suitably marked but not by a post; having so said taking into consideration foreseeable risk etc blah, I would like to include a properly identified post for the hydrants, does anyone know where I may find the specific details appertaining to FH placement and subsequent identification procedures etc; I have looked through all I have but can't find it, have even gone through my Building Control manuals, help gratefully appreciated.

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Charley
If it's a "Private Hydrant" you can mark the things almost any way you please! But please remember that the Firefighter is conditioned to look for the normal hydrant plate that you find indicating public hydrants.
You will have to mark any "Public" hydrants in accordance with the FS requirement; as you will any "By-pass valves" that link into the public supply.
Have you tried the Fire Safety Dept of your local FS, they deal with hydrant schemes all the time and should be able to pull of an electronic template? There's also a BS for the things as I recall.
