Posted By Steven Mellor Hi
just a quick one. Should Fire Exit doors always have "Fire Exit - Keep Clear" signs on the reverse? Should they be blue / white circular signs or the new combination "Fire exit (green) and Keep Clear" (blue) signs?
Thanks in advance.

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Steven
I am presuming that you're referring to "final exit" doors here?
The green "running man" signs should only ever be used to indicate the direction of travel to a place of safety - out - never anything else!
The protecting of the external area into which the door opens and into which people will move should preferably be achieved by means other than signs; however, if a sign is needed it should be s suitably BIG blue mandatory sign stating "Fire Exit - Do not obstruct" or similar unambiguous message.

Posted By TBC It's usually the blue one with 'FIRE EXIT - KEEP CLEAR' that's used on the outside. The idea is that employees or the public will keep the area around the door clear of debris and vegetation. Depending where your building is depends on how long they last. If kids can get at them they try to pull them off etc. So screw and glue them down fast (the signs that is - not the kids 'although'??????????)
