There was a comment made in another thread (see Quality of CV's) that it is a good idea if you do not have NEBOSH cert to make a comment on your CV if you have an equivalent qualification. I think it's a good idea apart from the fact i'm really confused by what level all the available qualifications are in relation to each other. Can someone please explain what is an equivalent and where NVQ Levels 3 and 4 stand among the qualifications. Many thanks.

Hazel is currently driving to Sunderland for a meeting tomorrow morning; she will no doubt respond to this, and other, threads once she's back in the office.

I think I am right in saying NEBOSH Gen Cert is NVQ level 3 and the IOSH managing safely course is also NVQ Level 3, the British safety council also offer an NVQ level 3 safety course

Hi Descartes,
Managing Safely is nowhere near Level 3 as was, and IOSH would never claim that it is. The BSC Cert in H&S is now at the same level as the NEBOSH Cert (don't think it's Level 3 any more now in the national qualification's framework), and the old Part 1 is also supposedly at the same level. NVQ3 as a standalone thing has now gone I believe,

Pretty sure that the IOSH managing Safely iand NEBOSH Gen Cert are not equivilant to NVQ 3.
Don't quote me on that though.

Depends on what you mean by NEBOSH Certificate. Mine is dated 1996 and certainly is not NVQ3 equivalent (was about NVQ 2 and a bit as I recall) but the Cert since about 2000 was changed to make it L3, as such it kind of replaced the old Pt1,

Hazel,
This question seems to crop up quite frequently.
It certainly is a topic when I'm running training and advising people to progress to the next level.
Would it be possible for you to produce a matrix (similar to the one on the QCA pdf) of say from Managing Safely upwards, with the various H&S qualifications and also comparision with awards (GCSEs to degrees etc) as understood by the layman
