Posted By paul debney I am about to complete my company safety policy do Iosh members think I have left any subject out that should be included. My policy consists of 1.Introduction 2.Statement of intent (for dating and signature by MD) 3.Organisation (company personnel responsibilities with safety structure chart) 4.Arrangements that include Risk Assessment (who when how) Workplace transport (large logistic company) Emergency procedures (fire, first aid) Accident reporting (internal external(riddor)) Monitoring of H&S (near misses, safety tours, audits) Maintenance (who does what and when) PPE Consultation with employees (safety rep, safety committee. Contractors Training. The current Safety Policy the company has, that is produced by a consultancy is not at all sufficient. Subjects included like COSHH (we have no chemicals). This consultancy will be responsible for my companys Health and Safety when I leave. The cheeky wotsits want me to send all the work that I am doing up to them so that our indemity (if we get prosecuted they will cover defence costs)is not effected. The Health and Safety procedures and paperwork I inherited here would not defend anybody if it went to court. I aint sending anything!

Posted By paul debney I am on a 6 month contract, I completed my NEBOSH cert & Dip1 (funded out of my own pocket) and due to the fact I couldnt get a full time position in H&S I have completed a number of short term contracts. At the place I am at currently a fork lift truck overturned on my first day so its been fun.

Posted By Stupendous Man Paul, Perhaps I have read your posting the wrong way, but if you have developed a health and safety policy as part of your employment, that policy belongs to the employer and not you personally - therefore you would be under an obligation to hand it over at the companys' request.

Posted By Tony Brunskill You should include Loading and unloading Roadside activity Manual Handling Work at Height (See HSE Website and Trg Materials) Vehicle Safety Checks Driving Licences checks LOLER PUWER Lone Working and Communications with drivers Use of Mobile Phones Carrying of Passengers especially by third party drivers. I would remind you that used/waste sump oil is carcinogenic and therefore a COSHH Assessment would be appropriate. As it would for battery acids, Anti freeze, degreasers used in vehicle cleaning etc. good luck
