Posted By Gary L good morning
The HSE have produced a leaflet on working with sewage (INDG197).
To what extent are you coming into contact with it? samples for analysis or man entry into sewers?
I've got an assessment but don't have your email

There is Raw sewage (pre processed), then there is Sewage Effluent ( which once separated and treated) can be discharged in to water with the appropriate conscent. then there is the Sewage Sludge at the other end of the scale, which can be Digested , to form digested sewage sludge , which can be processed either as wet cake or dried into pellets.
see you learn somthing new every day,
enjoy

Posted By Dave Wilson Good point, as an EHO I should have known, but is sewage cake still sewage? Is the effluent still sewage? as this can be pumped into a water course etc as I would say that the BOD etc are totally differnet and so would the bacterial content, suppose thats why you would need differing assessments, Yep nice one made me think a bit though!

Sorry for lack of detail, the Company I work for are about to invest in a Vacuum Tanker which will empty septic tanks/pits, portaloos, drainways which will bring our employees into contact with raw sewage and other unpleasantries.
Making me feel queesy writing about it.
Gary &Tim will email you both direct to take you up on your offers of information, if ok
