Hi does anyone have (or can refer me to) the types of information that needs to be on fire doors? I was told today that any door which is supposed to act as a fire door needs to have markings on the inside edge that give details of its resistance properties. I must be honest and say that I didnt know this so can anyone help out?

TIA

I remember that some manufacturer's used an industry colour coded plastic plug drilled into the top edge of the door, but at that time 10 - 15 yrs ago not all manufacturers followed suit. For expert advice Shapland & Petter of Barnstaple were our local source - they are now part of LS group (formerly Leaderflush - also top quality fire door manufacturers) - try this site they might help http://www.lsgroupltd.co.uk/overview.php

thanks, that must have been what they where refering to. If the manufacturers didnt continue this trend then that would explain why our fire doors (new building) didnt have them.

I had one person come to me suggesting that they werent fire doors as they didnt have the appropriate marking in the seam which had me questioning the projects team since I wasnt involved in the door selection.

I'm not an expert in this, but will venture an opinion. I believe that relevant BS/EN Standards require doors being supplied to be suitably marked (could be a label)at point of sale. In many instances these are left on by developers for the convenience of and to satisfy the Regulator (Building Control Officer). That said, I don't believe there is any need for permanent identification once installed.
