My friend’s dad has an office with 7 employees and has asked me to do a safety inspection. There idea of health and safety is making sure there is paper in the toilet. No policy statement, DSE risk assessments or PAT where do I start. I have recently passed my NEBOSH so any help is welcomed.

Has anyone got a suggested tick/ checklist I could work to please fell free to email?

Alan without wishing to appear rude but if you have just passed NEBOSH (certificate I assume) then why not devise one yourself, you are already on the right tracks, DSE PAT etc.

If you go to the TUC Website they had a national TUC Inspection day last year and provided the documentation to do a thorough check list of premises. You can tailor it to meet your business needs.
I conducted an inspection with a TU Rep and found we both found it very useful. It is now being built into our annual audit plan.

Hi,

Sorry to say it's a bit presumtious to assume that NEBOSH refers to the certificate, let's not sem to pour scorn on someones efforts to gain a useful and appropriate competence. The guy has asked for some help.

Alan, I have just finished establishing safety management arrangements for a large office based organisation and found a large number of websites of great help. The main thing you neeed to remeber is that it is office based. Look at the current Regulations to find what must be done such as DSE, COSHH, Workplace, Electricity, etc, and devise a set of arrangements. These must specify what must be done and who will do it. Use you new competence and work your way through it, yyou'l feel more confident the further you go. But if you feel some ned for an example let me have your e-mail address and I will let you have a copy of my check lists.

Bob, perhaps you could show me where I was "pouring scorn" on the person who had asked for the checklist?

Yes I do have NEBOSH certificate (and diploma) I would never pour scorn on either.

My presumtion was that it was unlikely a NEBOSH Diploma holder would be asking for a simple checklist for an office environment.

If you read the response I gave I was actually telling him he was on the right tracks with PAT and DSE and should have a go at developing his own.

Kind Regards
