I shall shortly be starting work excavating on a site that has known and possibly unknown mineshafts. The info from the mining survey is minimal, so we don't know the standard of the capping even of the known shafts. We will drill the known caps. Does anyone have experience of safe working practices in such an environment, or can point me in the direction of some guidance? I can find plenty on information on how to cap a mineshaft, but so far nothing on avoiding falling down a non- or poorly capped shaft!
