Posted By Descarte I had been asked to look at what impact the impending WEEE regulations would have on us, and so far I can't seee (mind the pun) anything. I had been asked by my manager to register ourselves with the EA/SEPA but we are not a producer, supplier, distributor, retailer etc... of electrical equipment. We do use IT, telecom etc. equipment but as far as I can see these regulations are just so that end users can return, recycle these products through provisions made available by maunfacturers and local councils. Am I missing some point somewhere that says if we buy so many computers, light fittings or telephones that somehow makes us a producer? Of course we would be a waste producer but then the onus is back on our suppliers and the local council is it not? Yours confusidly Deees

Posted By J Knight Hi Descartes, If you haven't read this http://www.environment.g...1106248/1106407/?lang=_e you should; basically the duty of care to qwaste will apply in a specific form, and the idea that it's all back to the la and the producer isn't the half of it, John

Posted By Descarte So by the looks of that link, if it was produced after 13 August 2005 the disposal should be at the expense of the producer not the business, but if it was before 13 Augist 2005 it is likely that the business would incur the expense and disposal issues. And as in Scotland we cone under the Special Waste Regulations we dont not have to register as a producer of hazardous waste. Hmmm, looks like I Am going to have to have another look through this one.
