Posted By Ray mausolle Can anyone tell me what qualification is required by law to become a competent safety coordinator within a large cooperation? Main responsibilities are carry out risk assessments and generating Local operating procedure to specific working areas within an organisation.

Posted By Jack It sounds like you do rather more than coordinate. Your competence requirements depend on what you are expected to do.

Posted By Jerry Lucey Hi Ray, I would not get too involved in safety job titles as a Safety Co-Ordinator in your organisation might have the same duties as a Safety Manager elsewhere. You would probably get a better idea by disecting the job description and looking at each individual elements and check if their training covers all the elements. I would also check that any qualification obtained is recognised e.g. Grad or Corporate Member of IOSH. or working towards this. You will need to make a judgement on what grade you are seeking based on risks in the workplace and numbers employed etc. I hope this helps.

Posted By Linda Crossland-Clarke Hi I have seen your earlier posting. If your looking at getting your employer to fund your training - to make yourself competent, check with your insurance company to see if they offer any discounts for certain qualifications. You may have your answer and financial jsutification all in one there. Linda SHE Knows.
