Posted By John Hi Does anyone know of any ice breakers that can be used at the beginning of a Safety training session. Also, does anyone remember the one about counting how many times the word 'of' was used in a sentence. Thanks, John

Posted By A Olsen Was looking for the same thing last week but wanted an ice breaker with a safety theme. Didn't realise how difficult it was to find something fun and interesting. Some I found that appealled to me: Complete the sentence - "The riskiest thing I ever did was......" Magic wand - Ask delegates what they would do if they found a magic wand that would allow them to change 3 work-related activities. Trait Trader - Ask each person to write one of their personality or character traits that allows them to do their job well/safely on a piece of paper and their name on the back, then they find someone to 'trade' with. If the new trait also applies to them, they write their name on the back of that paper alongside the original owner's name and 'trade' again. If they don't have that trait, they leave the paper blank and set off to 'trade' again. After a set time the facilitator declares "exchange closed" and the winner is the person whose name appears most often on the trading slips.

Posted By Roger Uncles John Depending on the level you want to pitch it at try working in pairs, find as many three letter words as possible from either "RISK ASSESSMENT" or "ACCIDENT" or a Safety sign quiz

Posted By Richard Altoft I find a good way to break ice or fill gaps or get things going again after lunch is to take a report of an accident from a recent mag such as SHP or SM and read out the basic details stopping before the outcome or sometimes before the penalty etc and then ask "what do you think happened next" Some one usually says well it is obvious "they fell off" or "it overturned" or "someone lost a finger" which then can be discussed or you can say "well why is it obvious to you and yet they did not see it" etc Always have a stack of real stories applicable to your audience - this months story about a director that has gone to jail will get an outing soon - I know just the set of managers I will be telling it to!!!!!!!!!!
