Posted By Lorna Davidson I work for a legal firm in Edinburgh and one of our clients is about to buy a new build residential property. The builders are apparently installing a ramp for disabled access to the property however our client is not sure if there will be a hand rail. Can someone tell me if there is a legal requirement for a hand rail or whether he has the right to ask for one to be installed if the builders were not originally going to. Posted By TBC There are varying degrees of disability and any person may use the ramp not just wheel chair bound tenants. Some may not be able to lift their legs high enough for steps and use the ramp, but also look for that extra support from the hand rail.
