Posted By Mark Speakman We have a number of harnesses within our company and have trained our personnel to go through pre use inspections, however it would be better if we could tag them giving users a clear reference to check the main items which approve their use. Does anyone know of any tagging systems that are available? I have searched the web and usual product catalogues but cannot seem to find anything.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson How about a simple small keyring and stamped dog tag fastened at some convenient point on the harness? No chance of hindering the use of the harness but with a unique number available for checking?

Posted By Dave Dowan Hi Mark We use UNITAG from Scaftag . Web site http://www.scafftag.com/fshome.asp We find that they are great for recording inspections and have the added bonus of being able to take out tag to show unfit for use sign if needed Regard Dave

Posted By Miss B Harnesses as well as lanyards and other components that may be used with them, do have individual marking schemes (serial numbers usually). They come with certifcates of conformoty as well as the check record sheets. I see various systems of recording checks. One way could be to keep the relevant copies of documents in a hard back lever arch file that travels with the user, so that should they be asked for they can be produced. Have you though about other training aspects? ie, in rescue and informing the users of suspension trauma? I come across many users who are not trained in such matters.

Posted By Miss B Sorry Mark, didn't read that properly, just got up after a late one. Ok all harnesses do come from the manufacturer with individual marking systems. If you are wanting to create a check list for the user when inspecting his equipment let me know I will email you some suggestions that are effective and inexpensive.

Posted By Steve Kirk My company uses the afore mentioned keyring dogtag method, however I have been informed by the harness suppliers that this would not be accepted a means of traceability if the original markings had been removed/damaged, the result is that the tags may only be useful for our own records.
