Do you have to recieve formal training in noise assessments to be classed as competant to test under the new regs?
What if you know how to operate a dosimeter and could advise on what actions are required to meet the regs without the formal training?

Sorry for the spelling error. It should have said 'competency'
May be I'm not competent to even ask the question

I see no reason why you should not conduct the testing. In truth only you know if you are competant.

A good reference point is L108 Controlling Noise at Work from the HSE. Page 17 talks about competence and this is expanded on page 49 paragraphs 184 - 187.
Para 185 - making sure taht all people involved in the process have the necessary traing and experience to carry out their part of the work. The ability to understand the guidance may be more important than formal training qualifications.
If in doubt and good with maths try the Institute of Acoustics course Certificate in workplace noise assessment

Hi there,
I had my training with The Castle Group. Would definately
suggest if. I have always felt that if i need to think about
or debate that I am competant, then it certainly wouldn't hurt
to do the training. Just for an update on legislation and products
available.
Jay.
