Im wanting to go on a Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Assessment course.
My manager has asked me what type of noise measuring device we will need and the cost of that.
As I havent been on the course I dont know. Can anyone shed any light and give suggestions??

Depends what you are using it for, simply:
Stop measure noise level dBA walk away (hearing protection not likely mandatory) = simple noise monitor
Stop measure noise (hearing protection probably mandatory) and frequency analysis to input in to spread sheet to determine effectiveness of hearing protection or determine types of noise being produced and likely methods of reduction/engineering = More complex monitor with ability to do frequency analysis
Or you can still do this second option without frequency analysis if you are using the monitor to then determine whether to bring contractors on site to do full noise survey / analysis
remeber hse guidelines about determining whether protection in likely to be required, like being able to talk without rasising voices to collegue 1m away etc....

Hi
You'll know what type of meter you need when you've completed the course. Don't buy one until then.
