Posted By Descarte Quick answer required on this one if you may. Is there any volume limit to the requirements for segregation of acids and alkalines in a storage area, or is it just a rule of thumb not to store acids and alkalines in the same area. If there is a limit, is there anywhere else this is written down apart from COSHH and HSG71 Chemical Warehousing, I cannot find any further references and nothing specific. eg: Many corrosive substances in Class 8 are incompatible. These may react together to produce heat or toxic gases. - acids/alkalis - generate heat Much appreciated Des

Posted By Paul Leadbetter des There is no volume limit and I think the segregation only applies to more concentrated acids and alkalies when the heat of reaction, on mixing, will cause boiling giving risks of spitting and irritating fume generation. Paul
