From information I have already found 850mm to 900mm for the height of a workbench seems to be the standard - but can anyone tell me where to find this information in either HSE/HSC documentation or other standards such as BS. In particular for a circular saw operation - cheers

Your question is a little misconceived.
The issue is about the ergonomics of safe working: a safe height of a workbench depends on the tasks to be done, the waist height, and armlengths of users. So a range depends on these factors which vary according to gender (and to some extent age groups) as well as some disabilities.
There are some BS standards with male and female anthropometric data. A good guide is 'Body Space', S Pheasant, 2nd edition, Taylor and Francis, 1996. The author also wrote the relevant BS dccuments.

Good reply from Kieran, as usual. There is no "one size fits all" height My desk is at 75 cm, my garage workshop bench is at 90 cm. The top of our kitchen sink is 100 cm. But the workshop height is good for me because, when standing straight my finger tips are at about 80 cm from the floor. Not everyone has such an excellent morphology as wot I does. Taller or shorter persons will be more comfortable with different heights. Can you provide means of adjusting ?
Please note : when designing the kitchen it was my wife's height and comfort that became the primary ergonomic factors. Even though I'm the better cook. (cringe, cower) (roast chicken with tarragon, roast potatoes, pod peas, carrots, thyme and sage (both from the garden)stuffing with a bit of lemon juice and bisto gravy tonight)
I'm not sure which wine. Maybe a Bordeaux Rosé ?
