Posted By Bob Shillabeer As well as the 11 m rule you need to be aware of the fire escape requirements. This requires at least 1000mm access width to each fire escape route so outside the 11m zone you will need to factor in a 1m wide space as an escape route. The desks in my office are arranged in sets of four to a 'bay' with cupboards forming the enclosure; there is a 1m wide escape route. So when working out the required space use the following formula widthXlengthX3m, e.g 2w x 2l x3 =2x2x3 2x2 =4 x3 =12. As you can see if the area is at least 2 meters by 2 meters you meet the minimum space requirment. Hope this helps
