I'm in the process of putting together a training module for 'managers' within our organisation. The intention is to try and deliver information on managing the subject not just spouting legislation at them (Yes, - I do know that some legislation is inevitable!!).
One of the things I'm wary of is the different levels of understanding and having to spend quite a lot of time trying to bring them all to roughly the same level. So my bright idea is to provide some 'pre learning' in an attempt to level the playing field a bit.
Does anybody know of any decent material (hopefully with some management content)that might be useful in this respect? Any hints or tips gratefully received.
Thanks
Stuart

Have a good look at www.businessballs.com; despite the rather flippant name this is an excellent site with a huge library of management & training type resources and info,

To the extent that your "intention is to try and deliver information on managing the subject not just spouting legislation at them", all the classic twentieth century management issues can be related to safe, healthy working.
This includes motivation, decision-making, communications, teamworking, individual responsibility....
In some organisations with excellent systems of safety management, the concept of 'high performance' blends effectiveness with safe, healthy working and a range of practical measurements are used to monitor levels of safe behaviour as well as quality performance.
Your choice of material in the end depends on what you want to achieve and on how you will know how well you have achieved your objectives.

Stuart,
I'm right in the middle of developing three training programmes for the same site : Board, Managers and employees. I visited the site on Friday and it is CRAP. Safety person is a young lady (25 ?) who is qualified and enthusiastic but has no experience or authority. It's a sort of developement/test centre. Employees and management do not seem to have the least idea.
I'm working on the programmes, not too much on the legal side of things. More on the responsibilities, costs and consequences for the board, more or less same for managers but also identifying/correcting/preventing unsafe acts and unsafe situations; Also 18000, safety policies and visible commitment and support.
The above are more or less standard with just a bit of tailoring. For the employees, it's a bit more difficult. Has to be more practical and visual. I've two weeks to get everything ready. Aaaaargh.

How about Safety Culture as a topic to get them warmed up. I have a PP presentation and a short essay on the subject. It is not 'rocket science'.
If you are interested in either email me direct at: ray.rapp@blueyonder.co.uk
Regards
Ray
