Posted By Scott d Hi All, I am looking to provide training for persons who will be using man riding cages. Does this have to be a certified course or would an in house course, delivered by a proffessional trainer be acceptable, providing it covers all necessary areas? Many Thanks, Scott

Posted By Jerry Lucey Hi Scott, The use of man riding cages comes under Specific Job Training and should take place once the operator has sucessfully completed a course of basic training and has been provided with a Certificate of Competence. Specific Job Training should take place away from the work place and should be carried out by a competent person. There is no recommended time on specific job training. Once a trainee has completed Basic, Specific Job and Familiarisation training they may be authorised to operate within the workplace by a senior manager within your workplace. Hope this helps.

Posted By Malcolm Fryer Scott Whilst you have a heading of man riding cage I think you may wish to refer to Guidance Note PM28 – Working platforms on forklift trucks. http://www.hse.gov.uk/workplacetransport/pm28.pdf Also Approved Code of Practice and Guidance – ‘Rider Operated Lift Trucks – operator training’. ISBN 0 7176 2455 2 Trust that this assists. Malcolm
