Currently employed in a Univresity undergoing long term minor projects. Each one involves around 2 weeks work by 3 operatives. Do we need to submit an F10 for these types of works. I an aware of the 500 man hours and 30 day rule but as this is a maintenance contract and long term does this fall into CDM category?

If the work is to be carried out at the same address it wouldn't hurt to notify. The ACOP says if you are unsure notify anyway.

If you have to notify - then do it.
If you notify and don't have to - it says to the HSE that you don't know what you're doing.

Tend to agree with the first posting. There are many projects for one reason or another that may or may not fall under the auspices of CDM. Hence if in doubt - notify.

Regulation 7.—(1) states "The planning supervisor shall ensure that notice of the project in respect of which he is appointed is given to the Executive ... unless the planning supervisor has reasonable grounds for believing that the project is not notifiable."
As it is a defence in the regulations not to notify if you have reasonable grounds for believing that the project is not notifiable; why notify?
Where I have come across this situation, I have made a courtesy call to the relevant branch of HSE, listened to their opinion and made a judgement call as to whether it needs notifying. However, I must admit my natural inclination is not to notify unless required by law.

'Why notify?' Take a scenario where someone does not notify and then gets a visit from the HSE, who subsequently informs the contractor that they should have notified. As a minimum I can imagine a very thorough ispection taking place. Worse still if it was as a result of an accident!

Just a small observation
The requirement to notify is over 30 days or
500 MAN DAYS not hours.
Sorry to be picky but it makes a big difference.
