Posted By Simon06 How'dy All, I'm currently trying to develop a Site Waste Management Plan (SWMP) for my company. I've already looked at the dti Site waste management plans code of practise, but was also wondering whether there was anything else out there, or if anyone could provide me with an example of their SWMP and how they've implemented it into their company. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Posted By busbybelle Simon06, I started by producing a Process Map, in the form of a flow chart, for each of main processes within the company. First, list the main tasks within a process then note down the inputs for each of the tasks and then outputs (wastes). After you have a list of the wastes created on your site you can decide which ones you can send for recycling (therefore, need segregating), those that are hazardous (special requirements for these) and those that can go into general waste. Once bins/skips were in place and labelled up, I produced a small powerpoint presentation with information on the waste management measures in place (bins/skips/baler, etc). It also looked at utilities waste as well (electricity/gas) and how we could minimise these. It has proved to work so far - employees segregate the majority of our wastes and are more aware of where they are disposing of waste materials and also of how they can minimise waste. Hope this is of some use to you. Michelle.
