Posted By Philip Purcell Hi All, this is a tough topic but i want to open it up to you for some advise and direction. I work in an offcie environment which is ok pased. There is a lot of pressure and stress for the staff. In the past 2 years we have had 4 girls that have lost babies during thier pregancy. This may or may not be related. Have any of you come across this in the past or have any advise to check and see if it is work related? I would grateful of any help with this. thanks and regards, Philip

Posted By Cathy Ricketts We havent had any great numbers but with a predominately female staff this does unfortunately occur. Had a very sad case of two girls in the same office one of whom had a still birth and one who had a normal birth - as they had both gone through preganancy together the effect of loss on the girl with the normal birth was quite great. Tommy do an excellent website covering these types of issues. www.tommys.org

Posted By Diane Thomason Philip, Miscarriage is unfortunately very common, especially in the early days and weeks (gets less common after about 12-14 weeks.) In an office environment I would say it's very unlikely that these pregnancy losses are work-related. Do you have an occupational health department who can advise? The "risk factors" for pregnant workers are clearly set out in HSE guidance, so if the risks are assessed and the guidelines are followed, there should be no work-related danger to the pregnant worker.
