Posted By Rachel G I wonder if anyone can help, my sister has recently taken on a lease for a café which has attached sports facilities (Bowls, tennis courts etc..) Also included is a set of bicycles available for rental. This being completely outside of my field I wondered if anyone could tell me if there is any guidance on the rental of such equipment?

Posted By Raymond Rapp Rachel I am sure there is some guidance somewhere, you might like to try the HSE web site and search engine or Google. Nevertheless, the principles are fairly generic i.e. the bikes will need to be fit for their purpose and properly maintained. Whether protective head gear should be provided and any sort of guidance is a matter of opinion, but to stay on the safe side I would advise it. Regards Ray

Posted By Chris Pope The Cyclists Touring Club might help you - they have been around since the penny farthing days so they know a thing or two. They might help with insurance advice as well

Posted By Frank Hallett Rachel I suggest that your sister first checks the contract conditions for who has what level of responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of all the sports facilities. Then, take advice from her insurance company. If she's a member of the Federation of Small Businesses, they can provide considerable help in this area - if she isn't, suggest she join. Frank Hallett
