Looking for impressive but relevant definitions & differtiation

Posted By kevin pawadyira I would like to effectively comunicate the difference and maintain the synegy between the roles of a H&S Advisor, Strategic complience Advisor and Planning supervisor as part of a complete service on a project.
Any ideas or reference directions would be greatly appreciated.

Posted By mike.mcdonnell The way I would tackle this is to identify the "Role" of each job, , then ascertain the "Functional responsibilities" within that role.
The role is the way the job is expected to be done, often found in the personnel specification, job descriptions, role portrait etc. Likewise the functional responsibilities should be so detailed.
When these aspects are inadequately identified "Role Conflict, and or "Role ambiguity" can occur.
Each of the jobs detailed will / may have similar functional responsibilities. The synergy will come about in correctly identifying these two aspects and then using the organisations management system in relation to performance measurement.

God knows why you are interested...but never mind. I tend to agree with Mike's posting, adding a caveat that communications is all important. Even if they all know their respective roles it is crucial that they keep each other informed of developments and changes within a project environment and not assume each other knows.

in my (vast) experience as a consultant, job descriptions rarely identify safety responsibilities. Not even for the safety person responsable for the H&S of their own team (if they have one) or for their own and especially not for a production manager. Costs, Quality, Environment, Volume, RH perhaps, But never H&S.
The H&S person has an advisory role. We can advise management/supervision on how they should be doing the H&S part of their jobs. We have the professional expertise. They have the management responsibility. We do not do their jobs for them.
We may say that "the risk assessment indicates that eye protection is required for this work". It is NOT our job to ensure that eye protection is worn.
It is also part of our job to audit and criticise others. We must say to more senior management that "X is letting people get away with it"
Just as it is part of our job to commend : "Harry is doing a great job on safety with his people" Unfortunately, this is a part of the role that we tend to forget. It's easy to criticise. Difficult to be positive. Needs training and practice.

Posted By Derek Holt Lets offer good sound advice and not just imply that somone needs a consultant when the poster of such is well known to be a consultant. I have noticed this and similar on a couple of threads this week alone.
We surely don't want all consultants to start openly competing for business on this forum as it will degrade into a 'if he can do it so can I'. No offence intended Merv, you always offer 'good sound advice'.
If the advice is that a consultant should be employed then at least the reasons why should be posted for the benefit of all.
Friday morning, dark sky, strong wind and heavy rain, time to check the roof for leaks....
