Posted By Ian Clay1 Hello everyone. I would like some advice on what is needed or deemed adequate when carrying out works on roundabouts. The roundabouts have aproaches which are at a maximum of 50mph in one direction and 30mph in others. Work will involve planting bedding plants aproximately 1.5-2 meters from the edge. i have read the code of practice on streetworks and that seems very vague when it comes to roundabouts and i get differing answers from the local highways authority. the duration of work will be aprox. 2-3 days on each roundabout. Please any help would be appreciated.

Posted By Chris Knagg Ian, if you have as I suspect only read the "red" book then the guidance will be a little vague. The full version of Chapter 8 is the size of a carpet sample book and contains much more detailed information. I also assume that you or someone has streetworks accreditation and are qualified to plan and supervise works on or adjcent to the highway. Easisest solution to your problem is to ask a traffic management company who are familiar with the local authorties where the roundabout is to provide you with a solution. Given that the roads approaching are 50 MPH it is essential that the traffic management is planned, set up and maintained by competent people.
