Posted By Neil Pearson Hi All, We have hundreds of engineers who have to visit various customer sites, many of which are unmanned or have other hazards. The engineers can be targeted due to the equipment they carry, and there's scope for them to have accidents while they work. But the sites could be anywhere, and since they're not our sites, we can't install fixed lone worker alarm systems on these sites. Mobile phones are often not allowed in computer rooms or data centres, so that might prevent us using other systems. I need to find a UK-wide solution (preferably even Ireland too) for monitoring these people as they work alone. I can't have a system that relies on local relay stations. It has to be just individual units that somehow link directly to a third party service, preferably one that actively makes frequent checks, or sends automated calls that must be answered. I'd like to get a feel for what's good, bad and best practice. If there's anyone out there in a business that provides IT services, you might have particular experience of this. Am I dreaming, or are there services that would match my spec? Grateful for any pointers or views.

Posted By Pat Hannaway Hi Neil, you might want to check out the following link. http://www.voiceconnect.biz/. They have a LONE WORKER system. We have approx. 200 lone workers and are about to roll out this system across our organisation: it is a mobile phone based lone worker monitoring system. It can have GPS included in the system . I have no details of costs. Regards Pat

Posted By Neil Pearson Thanks very much for the responses. I'll contact those people to see what they can offer. But I'd like to short-cut the weeding out process - does anyone happen to know what's recognised as particularly good? Anyone have recommendations or know of systems with good reputations etc?

Posted By Mike Herbert We have recently tried a pilot project which uses text messages that have to be replied to within certain time scales before cascading a series of responses. Very flexible in terms of setting up and monitoring. We are trying to secure funding to go further with it www.c3.co.uk/www.lookoutcall.co.uk Used by some health service/social care lone workers. It may suit your needs
