NVQ 4 Occupational health and Safety Practice/Open exam

I have almost completed the NVQ4 which has been a slog, and I gradually hope move up from Tech IOSH to GradIOSH.
Can somebody on the forum tell me about their experiences of the IOSH open exam and peer review?
I would also like to hear about its structure and content.
I looked at the NEBOSH route but it was just too expensive for my employer and did not fit into my busy work scedule. I am 49 and a practising H&S Advisor with a lot of experience in the NHS.
I am sure some of you will know about NHS's agenda for change. I would be interested in everybody out there who is going through the re-grading mire with this!

Peter - I am in the same position too - currently waiting for the necessary prompt from IOSH for the open book exam and peer review. My NVQ is curently away with the external verifiers so I hope I don't get the shout too soon. Regrding the Agenda for Change - Ha! as you are no doubt aware there is no national banding for H&S advisors etc. and as such I had to fill in a JAQ (a forty odd page queationnaire about the extent of the role) that was in November 2005 and am still waiting for the outcome despite various attempts to ascertain the result!. In the meantime we have been through a management reshuffle which has resulted in my old job disappearing and my applying for a new one banded at 7. - I am currently awaiting the dreaded offer letter but am unable to make up my mind to accept or not as I don't have the outcome of the JAQ (which may be banded diferently) The whole A4C seems to be a complete mess if you don't fit into one of the national bands.

Going through the Gender Change myself. It is a farce. The grading is varying from trust to trust, which is not what's it all about. Due to my manager and the trusts attitude I will be leaving, regardless of the banding, by the end of the year to go back into the real and more appreciative world.
Good luck to you, remember you can always appeal if it's not what you desire
