Posted By danielmurphy1985 could anyone help me or point me in the right direction to the answer. If a consortium were to construct a building in europe instead of britain what would be the differences in the legal principles and requirements? If the building was constructed in britain a jct98 contract would be used, what would be used for construction in Europe? Any answers will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Posted By Raymond Rapp Daniel As far as I am aware the country of origin would be sub-ordinate to the laws of the country of the actual project. That said, most European countries operate within similar EU rules. Furthermore, many large organisations adopt a policy of 'best practice' wherever they work and for UK companies that would mean compliance with both UK law and host country. Regards Ray

Posted By Merv Newman "similar rules" Quite right Ray, but there are, unfortunately a lot of nuances. EU rules are interpreted differently, and at different speeds, by different countries. UK seems to be "instant" and "gold plated". France, Spain, Germany etc. will vary I would seriously recommend that you need a local contact. Not necessarily us, but we can do for France, (midi accent no problem) Belgium (both languages), Switzerland (three of four languages), Holland (even Fresian), Germany and Italy. (maybe not Umbria, sorry but the accent is a bit thick. Patricia, do you do Umbrian ?) Can't do Spanish at the moment (especially not Catallan) Anyone ? Merv. Wife has just decided on Cocquilles St. Jacques for dinner. From the freezer. Easy option for wine is Entre Deux Mers(white bourdeaux) Unless you can think of anything better ? Hey ! it's been a tough day for a consultant having to shift all that compost. Trust me.
