Posted By Paul Stokes If a company provides gym equipment for use by it's employees, does this equipment have to be assessed under the PUWER regs?

Posted By Adrian Clifton Paul I would suggest that it depends on the equipment type. Whilst the equipment is not work equipment there may still be moving parts that may present trapping/entanglement hazards which require guarding. As the equipment is provided for the employees to use any required maintenance should be conducted and I would also recommend the occaisional electrical testing if they are powered. Adrian

Posted By Frank Hallett Hi Paul Presumably the gym equipment is provided on the employers premises for use by employees to maintain their physical fitness whilst at work in a similar way as is the norme in most Fire & Police Services? If so, it is work equipment and requires to be treated as PUWER dictates. If my assumption is incorrect, could you please provide more information to assist us to assist you. Frank Hallett

Posted By Paul Stokes Thankyou Adrian and Frank. Yes the equipment is for keeping fit, it is provided for this purpose and is all machine, no free weights. I have done the assessments now and all is well. I asked the question to get back up for when the time came to hand out actions for maintenance managers etc !!!!!. Thanks Paul
