So how many hazards did you spot on Top Gear last night? Whilst I enjoy the programme immensely, the BBC were guilty of a whole host of blatant and seemingly outrageous disregards for the safety of their "stars"....

The removal of the roof from the Renault Espace was a good example, however Jeremy did acknowledge the wearing of the "Nanny State Goggles" which Richard Hammond failed to wear when using an angle grinder on the door pillars whilst showering sparks in every direction.

As for the car wash scenario at the end, just as well they decided to get out of the car when they did or things could have turned into a very damp squib.

Top show, but their attitude to safety leaves alot to be desired in so many ways. Jeremy and the lads hamming it up as usual and everything being a "good laugh".

Any thoughts?

I was very impressed with the way Clarkson managed to wave his Stihl saw around while it was still rotating - if certain parts of his anatomy were larger, he may have received a nasty injury ;-)

I don't know; I know many of you think he is entertaining but to me this is just an abuse of privilege. H&S is not about the Nanny State (whatever that is), its about working condituions for millions of men and women in this country, many of whom get paid less in a week that Jeremy Clarkson spends on booze. He can opt out, most people just have to do what the boss tells them, and if its dangerous, tough,

I reckon if the BBC can make Daleks invade planet Earth on a Saturday evening they can cut a scene together that makes our heroes do battle with the many headed washomatic hydra on Sunday night.

I doubt they were at any risk, reckon it was smoke and mirrors, special effects a series of cunning stunts if you will.

I think that Nissan should forced to stop painting cars in that horrible, garish pink - so much so that I would glad to see it done in the interests of 'elf n safety'.

I'm sure the BBC will soon receive a claim from James Hammond for psychological injury after having to drive that car - but then again, it would be nice to see whether the Constabulary have any comments on 'driving with due care and attention' or 'control of vehicle' in relation to driving with a paper bag on your head!

Check this out

http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/beonshow.shtml

It's worth remembering we can't allow you into the studio if you're under 18 years of age. This is for two reasons, the first is health and safety. The second is the constant swearing.

Reference the garish pink Nissan C & C, whilst i agree the colour is attrocious and it would be a brave (and bigger man or woman) than he who would not drive it that could drive it with any form of pride! may i please say that it is a special edition and it has been done to raise awareness of breast cancer.

Interesting discussion, as an aside, have you ever observed the lack of health and safety on "Pimp my ride", their use of power tools etc?

The media do not always portray a positive image of the health and safety profession - preferring to see us as the 'nanny state' but absolutely right, fight the good fight for the ordinary employees who need support....

Anyone looked at the "great british menu" and the constant use of unguarded knives and the lack of kevlar gloves .

Or even "ready, steady, cook !"

Come on guys. Even Bob the Builder wears a hard hat. Which I consider to be a positive, encouraging statement.

Enough. We're off to bed. With appropriate PPE. (To be honest none is required and I will not go into details of risk asessement (frequency/consequences))

Yea Haa (or is it "yippee I yoh" ?) Hey, it's Friday (yee haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa)

Whilst the original Posting gave opportunity to develop a safety theme within the Thread, the fact is that the Thread is adding no value to professional health and safety. As such the Moderators have locked this Thread.

The Moderators are prepared to accept a "Friday Rant" on a Safety related topic but even that must add value to what is a professional Site.
