Posted By el nino All Call me stupid but...... If I am transferring or buying a piece of fixed equipment ( a labeller in this case ) from one company site / factory to another should I be ensuring that the equipment is marked CE under PUWER? The equipment is old and I am trying to force people to ensure that it is safe before it turns up on my door step. El Nino

Posted By Heather Collins Not CE marked retrospectively no (unless you are importing it for the first time into the EC from a country outside the EC) however you should certainly have an in-house means of checking the safety of the machine under PUWER. We have a formal sign-off system for this type of case, with all interested parties being required to sign to say they are happy with the machine - safety, engineering, QA, production, etc. This forms a part of the risk assessment process for a new or relocated machine and is done whether the machine is being moved across the world or across to the other side of the same factory.

Posted By 9-Ship As this is a straight transfer between sites, I would say you are not supplying under the Safety of Machinery (Supply) Regs - therefore CE mark not required. Various dates etc are involved with respect to CE marking if brought in from outside the EU. If you had manufactured the machine, after the SMSR came into force, you would have to CE mark. I'm a bit rusty (!!) on SMSR, so check the exact details I think most of the dates have now been passed.

Posted By Paul Yu If I am you, I will go through the PUWER, check each clauses in the regulations. In fact, you can CE mark your machine, self Declaration. As you can provdie evdience that the machine is safe and a technical file for the machine. The technical file should meet the mandatory requirement that including the risk assessment, checklist of machinery directive and oeprational manual etc.
