Posted By Janette Draper New name required for Near Miss reporting... I've heard of "HIPO","Yellow peril" & "see it - post it" and I also went onto a site once in Scotland and saw tigers faces adorning potential hazrds - all of which are very good, but I need something vibrant, catchy and simple to become the figure head of our new Near Miss campaign and where better to draw inspiration than here!! Any ideas?? Thanks

Posted By Philby' Jeff, stick with the world cup theme, you might have something, maybe the 'offside rule'!!! Game (work)stopped play due to potential advantage/disadvantage (damage/loss) Any Italians and Germans out there, I know we are nowhere near favourites but at least lets here a little noise!

Posted By JAI we use a system called re-act There is an electronic version available and a hand held card system very simple to use and we have improved our near miss reporting by 100% hand held cards are posted all over the site anyone sees something they re-act to it report it to manager/supervisor fill out card and an investigation if required, all departments are sent a re-act card spreadsheet which is displayed on notice boards showing the system works RE- RECOGINZE unsafe conditions & acts ACT- ACTIONS possitive communication for prevention Jai

Posted By Ian G. Minty In a campaign to raise awareness for near miss reporting in the past, I used the catchline: Oochah ******, that was a close one! It rang a bell with most people as how many times have they said that and still not done anything about it. Only for someone to be injured later.

Posted By Glyn Atkinson How about traffic light safety? Visual and useable! Green light / card / record - near miss encountered - immediately dealt with, no further action required, Amber light / card / record - near miss - requires attention, memo, tool box talk, planned work, Red light / card / record - near miss - could have been a reportable RIDDOR in different circumstances - publicise to all work areas, inform safety committee and all management and work force. Coloured tags to identify areas or plant equipment that needs to have action done - coloured spreadsheet report to list ALL near misses. Any good as a scheme?

Posted By Steve Cowton Hi Janette, we ran a campaign entitled 'Think Mum' basis of which was to ask employees to consider things through the eyes of 'Mum'. Worked on the basis of encouraging employees to stop and think what their Mum would have said about what they were doing/how they were doing it, etc. Worked on the principal that Mothers have a natural instinct to protect their offspring and will exercise extreme caution/risk awareness before allowing them to enter new places etc. Backed this up with a poster campaign - would you allow your child to work here, if not why not. Near Miss count increased from 5-10 a month to over 1200 in the 1st Year. Sustainability is the problem, with a need to reenergise every 3 - 6 months. hope this helps

Posted By Kevin Stevens1 Janette, Whilst working at Terminal 5 we changed the name to "Learning Event", working on the theory that not many people want to be associated with a near miss. The number of "Learning Events" reported increased vastly. Just a thought! Regards Kevin

Posted By Merv Newman "Learning event" Oh, I do like that ! It's a phrase I've used to management over and over again but actually calling your incidents Learning Events ? That is brilliant. Can I steal it ? Occasion Pour Apprendre ? OPA ? Nah. Evenement duquel on peut apprendre quelque chose - EDOPAQC ? I'll get there. DORIS ? Merv
