Posted By IanD I am just in the very early stages of managing the safety side of vacating a small factory. We have two production lines, which will need to be removed. Does the dismantling of this machinery / equipment comes under the definition of Reg 2 (e) of the 1994 CDM regulations Advice from those more familiar with this regs would be welcome Thanks

Posted By Glyn Atkinson Construction work - de-commissioning, demolition or dismantling of a structure. Are you just removing equipment to empty the building or actually changing the framework of the building in any way?

Posted By Jeffrey Watt Just did this last year as we decommissioned our brewery (boo hoo). We needed to do some civils to get stuff out plus the manhours/weeks were over the limit when we took other parts of the decommissioning into consideration so we decided it was CDM. Guess it depends Ian on your situation. I took a lead from my colleague in England who had done this in a sister brewery who had got the same view from his local HSE. Hope that helps Ian Jeff

Posted By IanD Thank you for the response, just to clarify, we are removing the machinery to empty the building to hand back to the landlord. We will be filling in two pits, hopefully that will be the extent of the civils. The machinary is not fixed to the structure, although there are a few LEV stacks going through the roof.

Posted By peter gotch Ian, See http://www.iosh.co.uk/in...iew&forum=1&thread=18996 So one consideration is whether there will be risk of falling 2m or more. Regards, Peter
