Hi, are there any requirements about as to the size, colour and type of label required for labelling up smaller bottles (1ltr) of decanted catalyst, obviously our supplier labels up the bulk product, and supplies a data sheet etc, but we then decant it internally for use, just wondered if there was any guidance/regulations for this. Also how would this be applied if we wanted to move this to another part of the group, say a box of 24 bottles full, could we just label the box, or do we need to label each bottle. My guess is the outside packaging if transported needs to be CHIP, but the internal bottles just need to be clear and legible ?? any idea ?
Thanks in advance.

I'd label the box and your bottles with the chemical name, safety symbol, risk and safety phrases as a minimum. That way you've not lost the key information from the bulk packaging. You can get the symbols from the CHIP page of the HSE site.

Hi, yes we do currently label both the box and the bottles, i guess what i'm asking is are there any specific rugulations regarding the labelling of these bottles in terms of size standards etc of the label itself, the box we're ok with as we package lots of larger chemicals, but i just dont know what we should have on the actual bottles, as although they'll be transported between depots, they're effectively for internal use.
thanks

For containers up to 3 litres, CHIP specifies labels at least 52mm x 74mm.

Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations most likely also applies if moving the goods by road. (Depends on if they are classified as Dangerous for Transport, also the quantities involved).

Carriage lables and CHIP ("Supply") labels are not the same, although you can combine them.

You could always ask a competent lable supplier (eg Hibiscus, whom I have no connection with).

I am also pretty sure that you are handling and technically supplying Dangerous Goods therefore you require the services of a DGSA under the above regs.
