Does anyone have experience, or know the legal position, in providing foot-washing facilities for religious or cultural reasons?
The problem at the moment is that some people are washing their feet in the sink. This has been assessed as not an acceptable practice due the obvious balancing on one foot, water splashes onto the floor, not fit for purpose etc…
A request was made for a footbath was made, our estates dept assessed the existing toilet/washroom and it is not possible to fit one in.
Are we legally obliged to provide footbaths in existing or new builds if there is a demand for them?
One alternative that is being explored is to allow a shower to used for foot washing. The only problem with that is that it is a five minute walk away from the workplace.

I have seen muslims washing their feet by pouring clean water from a jug. A seat or stool might help

We have a similar issue we are trying to resolve as the roller towels are being used to dry the feet.
Seriously, it's an area of growing concern and I'd be interested in how others have dealt with this issue - we try and exercise equal ops policy and are willing to put in separate facilities if this is best way of dealing with issue
