Are pressure gauges/ content level of extinguisgers mandatory????

Don't you just hate the time when you realise you don't know the answer to a simple, yet fundamental question!
We have recently purchased 25 fire extinguishers. They have been installed on site. During my general walkabout yesterday, I noticed that the extinguishers do not have pressure gauges on them, so it's impossible to carry out regular checks as to the usefulness of them.
Are these gauges mandatory on fire extinguishers? Either way, they'll be replaced, as our assessment of the risk highlights the significance of a small fire going untackled due to an empty extinguisher. But heck, I realised I don't know the answer to this question!
Cheers

the fire extinguishers which do not have a gauge on are operated by an internal compressed gas cartridge , which is weighed annually to ensure that the gas is still in the cartridge. The extinguishers should have tags on them to ensure that they have not been tampered with.the extinguishers which do have a gauge operate on stored gas pressure. You do not have to change all extinguishers for a gauge type.
