Posted By Malcolm Hogarth Quick one for you all please. Are there any restrictions on the employment of young persons (aged 17) on construction sites? (I acknowledge that in any event there is a requirement for a specific risk assessment) Many thanks, Malcolm

Posted By lewes There are not any defined restrictions on a construction site other than the usual Young Persons criteria. A lot of the equipment they wont be able to use because of their age and you will need to ensure they receive a good site induction, they are mentored, have suitable PPE etc and you are aware of their possible lack of knowledge, experience and maturity. A Young Persons R.A. would identify a lot of it.

Posted By David Bramall I would ensure that they are accompanied by an experienced staff mamber at all times until they have the competence to carry out work unaccompanied. DrB

Posted By Helen Horton Hi, don't know if this helps but from a practical point of view a site I was on recently keeps a register of all persons employed on the site and for young people the comments collumn is marked "must be kept under close supervision at all times". In addition they allocate a mentor or buddy to young persons and have a training plan in place for them.
