Posted By Andy Lightbody I have been requested to assist a friend with compiling an inspection check list for his self-catering holiday accommodation. Is there anyone who has experience of this and able to provide advice in the compilation of a check list. The premises are small- 2 bed, however, have the usual risks, furniture, fire, electricity, water courses etc. Any input would be much appreciated.

Posted By 9-Ship Is any money going to change hands between you and your friend? Or between you and whoever gives you advice? I would suggest that if you are getting paid by your friend, that as part of the fee, it is your obligation to make sure you are aware of the issues - and to budget the time the time required into the price, if necessary. Don't mind giving the odd word of advice to assist fellow safety people, but please don't expect the earth for nowt.

Posted By Stuart Nagle I would suggest that a good starting point for this would be the latest laws on Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO's). Although this is aimed at the privately rented sector for houses with three or more floors, if you comply with the requirements (which incidentially also contains requirements on fire safety) you should more than satisfy the Local Authority Inspectors. Posted By Paul Oliver Make sure he has the following carried out: Gas Appliance annual check Building fixed wiring survey: with class 1&2 remedials carried out ASAP Suitable fire detection and fighting equipment available: smoke detectors, fire extinguishers. Also look at access and egress for physically challenged persons. Opening restrictions on upstairs windows Lockable mains distribution cupboard (key left in premises) The list goes on, but remember to be practicable in order to meet the customers needs. Paul
