Regulations covering roller shutter fire doors

Posted By David Whaley Could anyone help? I looking at risk assessments in a new building. The building is fitted with roller shutter fire doors that close automatically when the fire alarm is sounded. The doors do not have any device that will stop them closing if the doorway is obstructed, they would carry on closing to self destruct. Could anyone advise if this is correct, or point me in the direction of any standard or regulation covering the operation of this type of door. Thanks
David

Posted By The toecap Dont sound right to me. Imagone the fire service running a hose length under a fire shutter door and it comes down on it to self destruct. What about the possibility of persons escaping being trapped?

Posted By David Whaley There are fire escapes. The doors close when the alarm sounds, it would be some time later the fire crew turned up. Access for them is another issue I am looking at.

Posted By The toecap I recall a similar situation in a large shop in which smoke blankets dropped down but these were made of a fire proof material. Much different than a roller shutter door

Posted By Martin Taylor in my experience these type of doors are not powered descent but gravity fall with the gearing such that they are slow descent with a warning light associated.
Yes if something does get stuck in the way it will get a fair bump but what is the likelihhod of this.
Pedestrians should not be using these doors for escape routes and the doors should be left unobstructed otherwise they do not perform their function
thanks
Martin
