It is mainly a rant about the incident last week with that bloke on the roof. However here are two nice quotes from the article:
“How much of the fault lies in the laws themselves and how much in our over-zealous interpretation of them? Might it perhaps be that the worst thing about human rights, data protection and health and safety legislation is the way they are used by the ignorant, the lazy, the incompetent and the can’t-be-bothered as the perfect catch-all excuse to get themselves off the hook.”
“The way we misinterpret and exaggerate the demands of the Human Rights Act, Health and Safety legislation and the Data Protection Act is just the latest example of the same old instinct to avoid doing any more than we have to do and to stop ourselves being blamed for the things we have done badly. It’s a grown-up way of saying, “The dog ate my homework.”
Personally I think the journo is spot on, and maybe worthy of an IOSH letter of congratulation.

I too saw this yesterday and thought what a refreshing change to see a sensible article about how much of the problem we have stems from the way health and safety laws are being misinterpreted or misunderstood.
