Posted By David O'Hara Hi All At the moment we have a sign at the entrance to the site displaying how many days without an accident, lost time incidents etc etc. This sign gets over looked and is also bad for morale in that even with an excellant Health and safety management system in place accidents do happen. I want to take down the sign and replace it with a statement of intent I suppose, but not lifted straight from the health and safety policy. Any Ideas? Thanks David

Posted By Jerry Lucey Goodmorning David, A statement of intent sounds like a really good idea, however I would recommend positive Key Performance Indicators to reinforce that your company is serious about safety as a statement of intent on its own can sometimes ring a little hollow. I do agree with removing days since last accidents as this often discourages personnel from reporting accidents and is not strictly within your control. Positive KPIs are those you can achieve with effort and commitment.
