Hello,

I've been landed the task of performing a health and safety survey of two manufacturing plants within my company. This will be the first such survey that I have carried out.I think I have covered most topics but wondered if anybody could add anything to my list, that I need to be looking at. The company's business is printing.

Legislation
Accidents & emergencies
COSHH
Noise
Electricity
Risk assessments
Manual Handling
Environment
DSE
Machinery
PPE
Fire
Staff Training
Traffic Management
1st Aid
Work at heights

Thanks,

Nigel.

Is this a climate survey or more of an audit type survey?

It's the first time a survey will have been done. We need to see exactly where H & S is at these two sites.

Hi Nigel,

You could consider adding the following:
Contractors
Pregnancy
Young persons
Stress
Road / internal transport

Commonly covered for insurance purposes:
Lifting equipment
Compressor testing
Sprinkler system

Of course, you may already have some or all of these detailed under other headings / in the checklist.

Good luck,

Fraser

Nigel,

Objective is to make sure we are compliant with current rules and regs, and to make sure nobody's doing anything stuuupid.

Nigel.

Nige,

Clearly its a compliance survey, from your and other postings it seems like you have the main issues covered. It may also be a good idea to keep records of the legal mapping just in case you require it in future to demonstrate compliance management.

Good luck!

The Health & Safety Executive have a page on their website specifically devoted to the Print Industry.

http://www.hse.gov.uk/printing/index.htm

You should find some useful checklists and other info there.
