Posted By Jerry Lucey Hi Sian, I find it easier to introduce permit-to-work systems based on particular risks e.g. hot works, confined spaces etc. The risks are similar whether the work is being carried out by an external contractor or a direct employee. There are a number of standard permit-to-work forms available. Perhaps your control of contractors policy could involve you taking up a method statement for all non routine ie maintenance works and identifying if works which are covered by a permit are involved at which point a permit could be issued. Hope this helps a little sian.

Posted By garyh On all sites I have worked on, ALL tasks done by contractors had a PTW. Higher risk tasks had an extra Permit or extra section to the Permit (eg Entry, Hot Work etc). In addition some tasks had a specific written risk assessment.
