Posted By James Langlands I'm looking to set up a clean room with full temperature and humidity control to house some of the more sensitive manufacturing processes we undertake. It was suggested to me the other day that when working in such an environment, operators must be given a ten-minute break outside the controlled area in every hour. I've scoured the ISO standard for clean rooms (14644) and the HSE website but I can't find any reference to this requirement. I neither want to comply with a non-existant standard, nor fly in the face of an existing (albeit hard-to-find) piece of legislation. The temperature and humidity levels we'll be keeping the facility at aren't particularly hot/cold/wet/dry, so surely it's no different to working anywhere else? Does anyone know anything about this requirement? Regards, James Langlands

Posted By Anwar Afzal I think that the workplace regs 1992 is where the answer lies t your query, It states: Temperature must be set a level which provides reasonable comfort, and this would normally be around 16 degrees celsius unless work is strenuious where it sholud be at least 13 degrees. There is no maximum temperature but if too high then reasonable steps to be taken achieve comfort. Hope this helps

Posted By Stewart Fullarton Hi James We operate a clean room and as long as the room is controlled within the guidelines there are no adverse effects. we keep the temp to about 21 -22 and the humidity to a level at mid point so not to be to dry or wet as humidity can have a massive effect on both product and the human body. Our room has 40 air changes per hour. Our opertors have worked for years under these conditions with out complaint Stew
