Posted By Malcolm Hogarth I ubderstand that the guidelines for inspections of fixed electrical installations are five years for commercial premises (dependent on the good old risk assessment), but where can I find where this is documented so that I can quote it please? Thanks, Malcolm

Posted By 9-Ship In the 16th Edition Wiring Regulations. (still think its 16th Edition - anyway whatever is the current version) They also now have a British Standard number which slips my mind - could be 7671?)

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Malcolm The recommended intervals have been removed from BS7671 and you now need to decide on your own interval (based on a risk assessment). Paul

Posted By Paul Leadbetter Amendment 2, 2004, I think. My copy of the standard incorporates the 2002 and 2004 amendments and 'the frequency of periodic inspection and testing shall be determined by the type of installation, its use and operation, the frequency and quality of maintenance and the external influences to which it is subjected' (Chapter 73) - sounds like risk assessment to me. Posted By Stuart C how long is a piece of string -- thats interesting, becuase if you ask people to visualise a piece of they usually think about a foot or two (you get the odd awkeard person who says a mile - but then its more of a length than a piece!!!)

Posted By Russell Peacey As far as I'm aware, the 16th ed. regs themselves have never specified periodicities for inspection. The quoted timescales come from Guidance note 3 to the regulations (published by the IEE). That document specifies 5 years for commercial premises. Russ
